ABOUT
WILMOT
ORCHARDS

Growers of Quality Fruits

Banked by the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges Moraine and overlooking the waters of Lake Ontario, the farm is situated just 5 kilometres north of Hwy#401 between Bowmanville and Newcastle.

Imagine standing here, breathing in the fresh air, looking at green vistas… it’s like standing in a painting. Like visiting a place akin to the old world of Provence, where centuries of appreciating the beauty of nature and its bounty have become an art.

The Farm History

Wilmot Orchards began when Charles purchased the farm in 1975 before graduating from the University of Guelph in 1976. After putting in a considerable amount of time and work to get the farm running, Charles and Judi decided to try their hand at trying to grow blueberries. The first blueberry bushes were planted in 1979, and in 1983 Wilmot Orchards opened for its first blueberry season. The Pick-Your-Own continued to grow, and in 1994, AppleBerries Café was introduced with 4 of our current staples: cheesecake, coffee cake, tarts, and squares.

As the health benefits of blueberries made its way into mainstream media, more customers came out every summer, resulting in Wilmot Orchards expanding again in 2003 to include the East Patch and Café. Today, blueberry picking is drawing new customers every year and the baked goods from AppleBerries Café keeps them coming back for more.

  • The blueberry season here at Wilmot Orchards typically starts the last week of July and lasts for about three weeks.

  • Our pick your own is priced by container size, 2L, 4L and 8L. If you have previously purchased a Wilmot bucket, we’d love you to bring it back every time you visit. By bringing it back you actually receive a small discount when you pay for your berries before entering the patch. If you have other containers that are not from us, but are clearly marked as a 2L, 4L, or 8L we’re happy to offer you that same discount. If your containers from home are a size that is not a 2L, 4L, or 8L, we ask that you leave those at home when you visit.

  • Our staff try to ensure that you get the best picking when you visit. This is why we recommend certain rows during your visit- to get the best berries.

  • Right now we have 9 different varieties available to pick: Patriot, Duke, Blue Jay, Blue Ray, Blue Crop, Berkeley, Nelson and Jersey. We have recently planted two new varieties, Bonus and Valor, which will be ready to pick in a few years. Each variety ripens at different times throughout the season to keep fresh blueberries available longer.

  • Yes, there will be a Pick-Your-Own admission fee of $5 per person over the age of two every Saturday and Sunday. There is no admission fee for Pick-Your-Own on Wednesday-Friday or to enter AppleBerries Café.

  • We encourage all guests to book their tickets for Pick-Your-Own and pre-purchase their buckets through our website (under ‘Plan Your Visit’) to alleviate wait times.

  • You can bring a purchased bucket or a bucket/container that is clearly marked 2L, 4L, or 8L and has been checked by staff. Phones, cameras, small wallets, and small bags (no larger than 6.5”x4.5”) are allowed. Coolers, tote bags, and backpacks are not allowed.

Wilmot Orchards reserves the right to search any bags, strollers, and wagons upon entry and exit of the patch.

  • No, due to health and safety regulations, we cannot allow pets into the patch or AppleBerries Café. Please leave all pets at home. Service animals are welcome.
